Nos 17 Villages en Lumière

I think it is fair to say that this is the year when nothing is going according to plan - for anyone.

My list of events for spring included an exhibition at the tourist office for the Canal du Midi in April. The area covered by the tourist office, known as 'Canal - Lirou', includes 'my' village, Quarante, and extends to Saint-Chinian, better known for its wines. There are 17 villages within their overall catchment area, each with its own 'personality'. My project was to sketch a scene from each one.

Like many other things in 2020 this was all put on hold, and the tourist offices have been closed for 3 months. On re-opening last week, my exhibition was 'back on' and it was all hands on deck getting things framed and in place for the 1 July.

For almost all of the sketches I decided to work with line and watercolour (Winsor and Newton colours). There are 17 sketches in total; The 8 'canal village' sketches are in Capestang and the 9 'wine village' sketches are in Saint-Chinian. The exhibition runs until 2 September. I have my favourites of course, but I'd be interested to know yours ...!
