DESCRIPTION:A glorious sketching weekend in one of the oldest cities in France! Take in riverside & canalside views\, magnificent architecture\, café culture\, wonderful food and the cobbled streets of the historic laneways. \nSketch in the city and learn a range of ink and watercolour techniques. This weekend is suitable for people with some or no art experience and materials can be provided on loan if you do not have your own. \nHotels in the city centre: \n\nHotel Imperator\nHotel XIX\n\nTransport recommendations:\nFly to Béziers with Ryanair or Montpellier\, Toulouse or Perpignan with other airlines\nClosest rail station: Béziers – which is within walking distance of the city centre \nWhat to bring:\nSketchbook\, Portable sketching stool\, Basic watercolour travel set\, Watercolour brush\, HB/B/2B pencil\, eraser\, sharpener.  A detailed materials list will be sent with booking confirmation or by request. SUMMARY:Sketching Sète: The Venice of Languedoc
DESCRIPTION:Stunning Sète is located not far from Montpellier and Béziers on the Mediterranean coast.  In the centre of Sète is the Mont St Clair\, which\, at almost 200m above sea level offers panoramic views of the city below\, also known as “Venice of the Languedoc” for its charming network of canals.  Sète is a major port city in the southeast region of France and bordered by the Étang de Thau\, a biodiverse saltwater lagoon. Sète’s Mediterranean coast is lined with sandy beaches and the historic city centre has an abundance of winding streets\, markets\, shops and restaurants. \nSketching in Sète offers travel sketchers a diverse range of subjects\, from old fishing boats and canal bridges to market shoppers and historic architecture. Over the course of the weekend we will work with different line and watercolour techniques to capture the vibrant essence of this characterful city. \nThese sketching workshops are suitable for people with some or no art experience and materials can be provided on loan if you do not have your own. \nWhere to stay: \nIdeally in the area of the Canal Royal \n\nHotel de Paris\nLe Grand Hotel\nHôtel L’orque Bleue\nFive to Sete\n\nTransport recommendations:\nFly to Béziers with Ryanair or Montpellier\, Toulouse or Perpignan with other airlines\nClosest rail station: Sète station is approximately a 15 minute walk from the city centre. Buses run regularly from the station if you prefer not to walk. \nWhat to bring:\nSketchbook\, Portable sketching stool\, Basic watercolour travel set\, Watercolour brush\, ink pens (waterproof ink)\, pencil\, watercolour pencils.  A detailed materials list will be sent with booking confirmation or by request. DESCRIPTION:Ideal for: A weekend away with the girls\, History lovers\, Photographers\, Francophiles\, Foodies \n\nTreat yourself to 3 days sketching in this vibrant\, cultural and historic city – you won’t regret it!  Montpellier is not just one of France’s most sought after destinations\, it offers an incredible amount of sketch subjects – from majestic buildings and classic French architecture to luscious green parks\, street cafés and let’s not forget the food and fabulous wine! \nFor this weekend break we’ll be based in the heart of the city – La Place de la Comédie.  From here we’ll start by getting to grips with some of the basics of sketching on location.  This workshop is ideal for beginners or a great refresher if you’ve already got some drawing or painting experience.  We’ll be exploring the city through our sketches\, learning a whole pack of tips and tricks about perspective\, colour\, adding people to your drawings and of course\, making memories about this incredible area of France! \nThe city is known for being pedestrian and bike-friendly with close to 200 km of paths and a great tram network\, so it’s easy to get around without a car. With an international airport it’s also incredibly accessible from almost anywhere – and you can also catch a high-speed train to or from Paris\, or even drive from London or Barcelona! \n\nWhere to stay: \nI suggest somewhere within walking distance of La Place de la Comédie.
