SUMMARY:Zoom workshop - Grapevines
DESCRIPTION:Tuesdays are Zoom days and in these 5 workshops we’ll use different techniques with inks\, pencils and watercolour to sketch some iconic images from life in France. \nThese online sessions are for a small group only and take place via Zoom where you can participate in ‘real time’\, ask questions and get feedback. Even if you are unable to join the Zoom the video from the workshop is recorded and will be available after the event to anyone pre-registered in advance. \nEach Zoom workshop lasts approximately 90 minutes-2 hours \nSummer programme \n\nTues 2 May – “La Boulangerie” – an essential part of life in France!  Simplify a composition and see how varying your ink lines can create a striking sketch\nTues 13 June – “Tour de France” – how to capture all the energy\, speed and vibrant flashes of colour with watercolour pencils and ink\nTues 4 July – “Fête Nationale” – fun creating fireworks with masking fluid and bold washes of watercolour using different types of brush techniques\nTues 1 August – “Mediterranean Harbour” – use layers of watercolour and gouache to create a sparkling harbour view\nTues 5 September – “Grapevines” – combine different watercolour techniques to capture autumn colours that glow\n\nBasic materials suggested: \n\n\n\nPaper suitable for watercolour (300gsm or higher)\nPencil\nWatercolour pencils\nWaterproof ink pens/fineliners\nWatercolours\nWhite gouache\nMasking fluid\nHairdryer (recommended)\nJar of water\, tissue/paper towel\, scrap paper\, small water spray\n\n\n\nFurther information: \n\nLimit of 10 participants for a small group setting\nDirect\, live interaction with the artist\nStep by Step instruction\nTime to complete each step in real-time\nRecording available to watch on replay\nAppearing on camera or voice is not necessary\n\n3-5 days after the live session\, you will get a link to the recording. DESCRIPTION:Assignan is also known as ‘Village Castigno’ – a wine-making village painted in the colours of wine! \nIn this fun workshop you’ll learn some basic sketching skills and all sorts of tips and tricks for using watercolour in your drawings.  You do not need previous artistic experience to join\, just an interest in urban sketching and a willingness to ‘loosen up’ your painting style! \nWorkshop starts 10am with a quick warm up sketch over coffee. \nYou will need a sketchbook with paper 160gsm or higher – which can be purchased on the day if you do not have your own. \nWe will also use a black waterproof ink pen\, HB pencil\, basic watercolour kit\, brush and water pot.

DESCRIPTION:Join Urban Sketchers instructor and inspirational artist Ian Fennelly to sketch in and around the beautiful historic city of Narbonne! \nNarbonne is situated in the Aude département of Occitanie – also referred to as Languedoc!  This beautiful Roman city has narrow cobbled streets\, Haussmann-style architecture\, a majestic cathedral\, tree-lined promenades lined with cafés\, a fantastic indoor food market (voted France’s best in 2022!) and the Canal de la Robine which runs through its centre on its way to the Mediterranean. \nVia public transport you can reach Narbonne via the following airports – Béziers\, Carcassonne\, Perpignan\, Toulouse or Montpellier.  Narbonne train station is extremely central and a 5-10 short walk from the heart of the city centre.  The rail routes through Narbonne include the TGV service to Barcelona and the high speed trains between Bordeaux and Marseille. \nIan’s workshops will take place Monday to Friday and you can join for the full week for £400. SUMMARY:Urban Sketching in France with Ian Fennelly 2023
DESCRIPTION:Join Urban Sketchers instructor and inspirational artist Ian Fennelly to sketch in and around the beautiful historic city of Narbonne! \nNarbonne is situated in the Aude département of Occitanie – also referred to as Languedoc!  This beautiful Roman city has narrow cobbled streets\, Haussmann-style architecture\, a majestic cathedral\, tree-lined promenades lined with cafés\, a fantastic indoor food market (voted France’s best in 2022!) and the Canal de la Robine which runs through its centre on its way to the Mediterranean. \nVia public transport you can reach Narbonne via the following airports – Béziers\, Carcassonne\, Perpignan\, Toulouse or Montpellier.  Narbonne train station is extremely central and a 5-10 short walk from the heart of the city centre.  The rail routes through Narbonne include the TGV service to Barcelona and the high speed trains between Bordeaux and Marseille. \nIan’s workshops will take place Monday to Friday and you can join for the full week for £400. DESCRIPTION:Who doesn’t enjoy browsing a French market?!   There’s so much atmosphere – all the sights and sounds and energy of people busy buying and selling gorgeous local produce – the smells\, shapes\, flavours and colours are an absolute treat for the senses! \nSketching a market is great fun too\, but it may seem a bit daunting at first…  Fear not\, in this workshop we will see how to simplify the drawing to capture the essence of the day\, and then use washes of bright watercolour to enhance our final sketch. \nThe workshop is designed for anyone interested in getting started with travel and urban sketching\, or someone who may not feel confident with watercolour and would like to work in a brighter\, looser style! \nYou will not need many materials\, recommended items include a sketchbook\, pencil\, basic set of watercolours and a few ink pens with waterproof ink.  If you do not have your own sketch kit then one can be provided on loan\, by prior arrangement. \nThere are 8 different markets in the series\, so you can choose a date and location to suit you.  No previous art experience is necessary\, all you’ll need is a basic sketch kit\, an open-mind and a love of traditional French markets! \n\nTuesday 11 April – Olonzac\nWednesday 10 May – Gruissan\nFriday 23 June – Béziers\nSunday 9 July – Saint Chinian\nSunday 20 August – Capestang\nThursday 31 August – Carcassonne\nThursday 28 September – Narbonne\nSaturday 14 October – Pézenas\n\n\n  \n
