DESCRIPTION:Join Urban Sketchers instructor and inspirational artist Ian Fennelly for a fabulous week of workshops in the south of France 8-12 September 2025! \nIan has selected Nîmes as the location for these 5 workshops in 5 days. Nîmes is a fascinating and historic city\, with Roman architecture\, beautiful gardens and street side cafés – it offers an abundance of subjects for Ian’s wonderful art & captivating teaching style. \nWorkshop days\nIn these workshops Ian will guide you through 1 different sketch subject each day.  Usually\, the workshop day starts at 9.30am ending at approxiately 5pm. SUMMARY:Colours of the Mediterranean Sketching Workshops
DESCRIPTION:Indulge in 4 glorious days sketching by the sea along the Vermillion Coast not far from Spain!   Your workshops are based in the quaint and colourful town of Collioure\, which is a treasure trove for sketchers!  It has a small port\, beaches\, cobbled streets\, a popular market and iconic views around the old chateau.  Our sketchbooks will be filled with colour as we study boats\, water and the hustle bustle of the busy cafés that surround the beach. \nFor many decades Collioure has remained a very popular destination for artists – rich in history it offers a huge variety of subjects for painting and drawing and in fantastic light. \nOver the course of these 4 days we will also spend time in the nearby coastal villages of Port-Vendres and Banyuls-sur-Mer.  Port-Vendres is a larger town with a busy fishing port and renowned for its numerous fish and sea food restaurants. Banyuls-sur-Mer is considered a jewel of the Mediterranean with a stunning coastline and the famous old vineyards on the slopes of the Catalan which source the fortified wine\, Banyuls. \nEach of the charming locations gives you the chance to experience a real taste of Catalonia in the south of France. SUMMARY:A Week in Provence: Sketching Holiday 2025
DESCRIPTION:Join me for a wonderful week sketching in watercolour and a taste of local life in sunny Provence!  For this trip we will be based in the walled city of Avignon\, also known as the City of Popes.  Sitting alongside the Rhone river\, the city has so many treasures to sketch including historic palaces and gardens\, quant cobbled streets and bistros\, ancient waterwheels\, churches and market squares. \nIn addition to urban sketching and city life we will also take a day trip into the countryside where we can capture some iconic Provençal views over lavender fields and hilltop villages. \nThe holiday starts on Sunday evening where we’ll get together over a welcome apèritif to talk through plans for the week.  Each day will include sketching guidance and tuition and the opportunity to lunch together.  The itinerary will be flexible so there will be the possibility of free time in the afternoon for you to explore or relax on your own or … sketch some more! \nAvignon is easily accessible by train and the station is a very short walk from the city centre.  You can travel by TGV to Avignon from several major cities including Paris\, Montpellier\, Nîmes\, Béziers\, Nice and Marseille.  Closest airports include Montpellier\, Nîmes\, Béziers\, Nice and Marseille.  Please just let me know if you have any questions about getting here. \nPrice includes daily tuition (5 hours) and a day trip to sketch the Lavender fields\, but does not include accommodation in Avignon\, other transport\, meals or refreshments. \nSuggestions of places to stay: \n\nHotel de l’Angleterre\nHotel le Medieval\nRégina Boutique Hotel\n\nWorkshop price including private day tour to the lavender fields and hilltop villages: 545€

DESCRIPTION:Stunning Sète is located not far from Montpellier and Béziers on the Mediterranean coast.  In the centre of Sète is the Mont St Clair\, which\, at almost 200m above sea level offers panoramic views of the city below\, also known as “Venice of the Languedoc” for its charming network of canals.  Sète is a major port city in the southeast region of France and bordered by the Étang de Thau\, a biodiverse saltwater lagoon. Sète’s Mediterranean coast is lined with sandy beaches and the historic city centre has an abundance of winding streets\, markets\, shops and restaurants. \nSketching in Sète offers travel sketchers a diverse range of subjects\, from old fishing boats and canal bridges to market shoppers and historic architecture. DESCRIPTION:1 place left! \nCome and join me in Paris for a wonderful few days of watercolour\, travel sketching and sightseeing in the most popular city in the world! \nExplore the city of light with your sketchbook – the mood\, the pace and the colours will be bright!  In this action-packed weekend I’ll show you some of my favourite places to sketch where we can capture special moments in line and in colour.  This is an incredible experience for sketchers of any level of experience. \nI recommend staying in the 5th arrondissement of Paris – it’s a fabulous but quieter location which gives us access to many of the best sites for sketching. \nWe start on Friday evening with some warm-up sketches before heading out into the city on Saturday morning. I suggest you have comfortable shoes for walking and a sketch kit which includes both an A4 sketchbook for watercolour and pocket sized book for quick drawings & notes. Meeting lovely people with the same interests in art was an added bonus. \n  \nI attended a Paris weekend in April 2022. Annette put so much work into ensuring we had some wonderful and unique views of Paris to sketch\, plus the usual sites. If you think you know Paris\, then look again with Annette. We created lovely memories. \n  \nJust enjoyed an energetic weekend in Paris sketching with Annette Morris Art . We covered many of the best known landmarks\, and managed very brief\, longer\, and full-length sketching sessions. It was wonderful to concentrate on drawing\, without having to think about route-finding\, where to eat\, and locations for coffee and recuperation\, because Annette had that all planned. it was fun to work with like-minded people\, and as usual\, we all looked at the same thing but saw something completely different. I have ended up with some memorable sketches in themselves\, some sketch material to develop\, and enough photographs to take me through the winter! I genuinely recommend any session Annette runs as manager: I look forward to another one myself. \n  \nJust home after an amazing sketching trip to Paris with Annette and a fabulous group. Can’t recommend this trip highly enough! It was a brilliant experience seeing Paris as a sketcher. Lots of opportunities for quick sketches\, photographs\, interspersed with sightseeing whilst walking and bus trips but plenty of stops for refreshments at some fantastic cafés and restaurants. Annette made the weekend such a special experience with attention to detail\, making sure we had a memorable trip seeing lots of what Paris has to offer and have many lovely memories – and sketches- of a great weekend. Looking forward to adding to my sketchbook now that I’m home. Thank you so much Annette ‍

SUMMARY:Watercolour weekend in Provence - Avignon!
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy a wonderful weekend exploring the walled ‘City of Popes’ – in watercolour!  There are dozens of fantastic sketch subjects in Avignon – including the infamous bridge – Le Pont Saint Benezet.  The city is largely pedestrianised and filled with incredible architecture\, quant cafés\, many churches\, chapels and gardens and of course ‘the Pope’s Palace’. \nAvignon’s colourful history makes it a perfect location to have fun with pigments and patterns!  In the Middle Ages the River Sorgue was diverted to form several canals. One of them\, the Canal de Vaucluse\, still runs through the city before joining the Rhône river.  From the 15th – 18th centuries\, textile makers in Avignon took advantage of this water supply to create colourful\, typically Provençal cotton textiles (even when they had been banned elsewhere in France).  At the height of the weaving boom\, the mills were powered by 23 water wheels along the canal\, whose water was also used to rinse the fabrics.  Most of the wheels were destroyed during the French Revolution but four still remain. It is in this charming and beautiful area of the city we find the rue des Teinturiers – known to local as rue des Roues – ‘Wheel Street’!  This will be just one of our sketching points in a fabulous weekend – do book soon as places will be limited. \nTravel information \nAvignon is easily accessible via many major airports including Marseille\, Montpellier\, Béziers and Nîmes\, Avignon central station is a 5 minute walk from the city centre. \nWhere to stay \nThere are a number of hotels within the walled city centre which are ideal for a short weekend stay such as Hotel Le Médiéval – but here are some of the other options on Booking.com \nOur sketching weekend starts on Friday evening with some warm-up sketches before heading out into the city on Saturday morning. With an international airport it’s also incredibly accessible from almost anywhere – and you can also catch a high-speed train to or from Paris\, or even drive from London or Barcelona! \n\nWhere to stay: \nI suggest somewhere within walking distance of La Place de la Comédie. DESCRIPTION:Ideal for: A weekend break\, Walking\, Wine-tasting\, Photography\, Cycling \n\nFor this weekend break we’ll be based in the historic village of Montouliers – located in the heart of Languedoc’s Minervois wine-growing region. We’ll be exploring the village and surrounding area through our sketches\, learning a whole pack of tips and tricks about perspective\, colour\, journaling and of course\, tasting some of the local produce! \nThe holiday starts on Friday evening with a welcome drink at 6pm. We shall start sketching at 9.30am on Saturday finishing at approximately 4.30pm.  On Sunday we will sketch from 10am through to 1pm and the afternoon is yours to enjoy\, relax\, explore\, or sketch some more! \n \nWhere to stay: \nLa Calade is a newly renovated Chambre d’hôtes with 4 beautiful first floor bedrooms. All rooms have original features and beautiful private bathrooms. DESCRIPTION:Sketch Béziers – one of the oldest cities in France! Discover the incredible architecture\, the Canal du Midi\, café culture and beautiful markets. You’ll explore the city like a local sampling food at some of my favourite bistros whilst creating some beautiful memories in your sketchbook. \nSaturday will start with a café sketch at 10am before other sketches on location. We’ll continue our sketches after lunch and continue sketching until about 5pm.  Sunday we’ll move onto new techniques to journal city life before enjoying Sunday lunch together.  We’ll finish our sketches around 2pm so the afternoon is yours to relax and explore. We’ll be exploring the village and surrounding area through our sketches\, learning a whole pack of tips and tricks about perspective\, colour\, journaling and of course\, tasting some of the local produce! \nThe holiday starts on Friday evening with a welcome drink at 6pm. We also make sure you have plenty of opportunities to explore\, shop\, swim and relax in your own time. \nWe welcome anyone of any age\, no previous drawing skills or painting experience needed – just a desire to learn\, have fun and be creative! \nThis 6-night sketchbook adventure will take you through the essentials of travel sketching whilst having a lot of fun!
