SUMMARY:Sketching Sète: The Venice of Languedoc
DESCRIPTION:Stunning Sète is located not far from Montpellier and Béziers on the Mediterranean coast.  In the centre of Sète is the Mont St Clair\, which\, at almost 200m above sea level offers panoramic views of the city below\, also known as “Venice of the Languedoc” for its charming network of canals.  Sète is a major port city in the southeast region of France and bordered by the Étang de Thau\, a biodiverse saltwater lagoon. Sète’s Mediterranean coast is lined with sandy beaches and the historic city centre has an abundance of winding streets\, markets\, shops and restaurants. \nSketching in Sète offers travel sketchers a diverse range of subjects\, from old fishing boats and canal bridges to market shoppers and historic architecture. Over the course of the weekend we will work with different line and watercolour techniques to capture the vibrant essence of this characterful city. \nThese sketching workshops are suitable for people with some or no art experience and materials can be provided on loan if you do not have your own. \nWhere to stay: \nIdeally in the area of the Canal Royal \n\nHotel de Paris\nLe Grand Hotel\nHôtel L’orque Bleue\nFive to Sete\n\nTransport recommendations:\nFly to Béziers with Ryanair or Montpellier\, Toulouse or Perpignan with other airlines\nClosest rail station: Sète station is approximately a 15 minute walk from the city centre. Buses run regularly from the station if you prefer not to walk. \nWhat to bring:\nSketchbook\, Portable sketching stool\, Basic watercolour travel set\, Watercolour brush\, ink pens (waterproof ink)\, pencil\, watercolour pencils.  A detailed materials list will be sent with booking confirmation or by request. SUMMARY:A Week in Provence: Sketching Holiday 2025
DESCRIPTION:Join me for a wonderful week sketching in watercolour and a taste of local life in sunny Provence!  For this trip we will be based in the walled city of Avignon\, also known as the City of Popes.  Sitting alongside the Rhone river\, the city has so many treasures to sketch including historic palaces and gardens\, quant cobbled streets and bistros\, ancient waterwheels\, churches and market squares. \nIn addition to urban sketching and city life we will also take a day trip into the countryside where we can capture some iconic Provençal views over lavender fields and hilltop villages. \nThe holiday starts on Sunday evening where we’ll get together over a welcome apèritif to talk through plans for the week.  Each day will include sketching guidance and tuition and the opportunity to lunch together.  The itinerary will be flexible so there will be the possibility of free time in the afternoon for you to explore or relax on your own or … sketch some more! \nAvignon is easily accessible by train and the station is a very short walk from the city centre.  You can travel by TGV to Avignon from several major cities including Paris\, Montpellier\, Nîmes\, Béziers\, Nice and Marseille.  Closest airports include Montpellier\, Nîmes\, Béziers\, Nice and Marseille.  Please just let me know if you have any questions about getting here. \nPrice includes daily tuition (5 hours) and a day trip to sketch the Lavender fields\, but does not include accommodation in Avignon\, other transport\, meals or refreshments. \nSuggestions of places to stay: \n\nHotel de l’Angleterre\nHotel le Medieval\nRégina Boutique Hotel\n\nWorkshop price including private day tour to the lavender fields and hilltop villages: 545€
